Sun Conure Attacking Feet

Sun Parakeet (Conrad) attacks feet!

Amazingly it turns out that many parrots see feet as objects that must be destroyed!

Often Sun Parakeets will attack toes without warning, it is heaps fun!

Defensive Sun Parakeet aka Sun Conure

Defensive Sun Parakeet aka Sun Conure

Conrad will attack (keep in mind he is just a little bird) any visitor he does not like (if they show fear that is).
Confident people gain his confidence right away.  Also once he has it in for you it can take weeks to train him not to swoop.  He is ultra aggressive and swoops the face and ears!  Some of our friends are seldom seen these days.

I used to tell people to toughen up as Conrad's pecks did not hurt that much, then I discovered he ups the anti when he is defending his turf and has drawn blood on two people so far (he is now friends with both).  We love how defensive he is!

We often joke that if Conrad was the size of a human he would be feared across the land.  We do not encourage him, and now when we have groups of visitors and he gets upset we put him in the spare room until the coast is clear.

Comments welcome.

Sun Conure - feet turn yellow green overnight. (CASE NOW CLOSED)

THE CASE OF YELLOW FEET - now solved.

Hey everyone. (please read update first)

UPDATE:  GUEST WHAT!!!  This was a false alarm.  Conrad's favourite perch is painted in yellow and green (as well as red and blue, but he does not land on these colours)!  He had a massive bath 2 days ago and was soaked and then landed on this perch to dry off.  Phew!  Now I have to email the sites that I have asked for help with to tell them of the false alarm.  :)  Please share this lesson with friends, I am sure many experience this false alarm. :)

The concern

Conrad's feet have turned yellow green overnight and we are worried it is a symptom of disease.  However, as usual, there are many factors that could have contributed to this.  Two days ago Conrad landed on a pizza stone that had just come out of the oven.  He was on it for 2 seconds and I cannot see how he would have burnt his feet.

1  How sensitive are Conures feet to burns?

2.  Could this be from some kind of infection?

If your reading this and are a Conure owner, have you seen this before?

We need your help.  Case solved, see update above!

Phil and Julie.

Thanks for reading and please share this with any bird owner.  It could save them a trip to the VET ($).

Note:  The inks used in the adventure gym are water colours and  are non toxic.
